Africans sold Africans. That is true. But does African participation end the Caribbean reparations case—or does it require us to follow the entire chain? This documentary separates capture, sale, purchase, transportation, law, plantation exploitation, and emancipation settlement. It examines the roles of African rulers and merchants, European buyers, shipping and financial interests, colonial governments, churches and plantation institutions. It also confronts the strongest modern objection: why should innocent taxpayers, including descendants of enslaved and colonized peoples, pay for crimes committed centuries ago? Using historical scholarship, official records and CARICOM’s reparations framework, we distinguish personal guilt from institutional responsibility. Jamaica provides an accessible example: enslavers received compensation at emancipation, the formerly enslaved did not, and unequal political structures continued long after slavery ended. We also credit Britain’s abolition and naval suppression while asking whether ending a wrong is the same as repairing it. This is not a case for collective racial guilt.
