Cancel Culture has reached a crossroads with your childhood. Are you ready? There is so much talk these days about so-called 'cancel culture'. For the uninitiated, it's essentially the mass 'canceling' or public display of disapproval for something or someone coupled with strong social pressure or shaming to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Or at least, that's how it's 'supposed' to work in practice. In our modern world, it's not uncommon for public opinion to shift away from how things have been done in the past. As political and cultural ideologies progress, things that were once deemed acceptable or even 'the norm' In the past are sometimes deemed inappropriate and are no longer tolerated by a sizable chunk of the population Critics of cancel culture love to throw around the term 'Orwellian' to describe the practice. Although anyone that's actually read 1984 will probably point out how the term is being misappropriated. Regardless, opponents view the trend as a form of populist censorship and a violation of their personal freedoms and liberties. Supporters of the practice applaud 'cancel culture' as progress. It seems like every week, something new is being heralded as the latest victim of 'cancel culture'. Most recently, the world was bitterly divided by Hasbro's decision to rebrand their signature Mr. Potato Head line of toys as simply 'Potato Head' effectively making the iconic bug-eyed spud gender-neutral. Then there was all that hub-bub surrounding the 6 Dr. Seuss books that Seuss Enterprises announced they would be discontinuing due to their insensitive and stereotypical depictions of people of color. The original Space Jam came out in 1996 and with that release, audiences were introduced to a whole new slew of anthropomorphized animal characters. One of these new additions was Lola Bunny. She was the point guard for the Tune Squad, the team comprised of classic Looney Tunes characters and Michael Jordan. Entertainment Weekly just revealed an updated design for the Space Jam characters on Thursday. The new Lola is substantially less sexualized in her new incarnation. Instead of bouncing around the court in skimpy attire, she now wears a full-length uniform just like the other members of the Squad.
