It’s a short, to-the-point 15-page read that shares specific strategies to help you get ahead and set yourself on the right path toward achieving your goals. In today’s video, I share my approach to writing. My writing process has been heavily influenced by my professor from back in the day, Kathy Khan, from San Jose State University’s TA 100W writing class. She emphasized that writing is about much more than grammar and spelling; it’s about the emotions you convey and the lasting impression you leave on the reader. That perspective completely changed how I viewed writing. As someone who never considered themselves a “writer,” it gave me the confidence to practice, improve, and expand my skills. It’s incredible that all these years later, I’m still applying what she taught me. In this video, you’ll see me ride the wave of different emotions. The process I share involves freewriting for 15 minutes while listening to music, taking a break, then returning to review and organize what I wrote. When it comes to revising, one of the best things you can do is read your work out loud or use software that reads it back to you. That way, you can hear how it actually sounds. You also have to allow your writing to “bake” by stepping away from it and coming back later with fresh eyes. I also talk about using AI for editing. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but if you rely on it too much it can start to lose your unique voice. There’s nothing wrong with using AI as a second pair of eyes to catch mistakes or provide feedback on areas that could be stronger. At the end of the day, if it helps you finish and improve your work, I’m all for it. Just make sure you continue building confidence in your own writing abilities and avoid relying on it too heavily. At the end of the video, I share how I uploaded my book cover and writing documents into ChatGPT and Google AI, but neither formatted them correctly! I decided to take matters into my own hands and create the final version myself in Canva. I’m really proud of how it turned out.
