I hope this is as much fun to watch as it was to make. If you want to know more about this video, read below. I wanted to make this video to bring back some good memories of the internet circa 2010, but with a production value more akin to 2026. First, I had to settle on a song, obviously one from back then. After going over the many available options, I chose Hero, by Skillet. I wanted a song with which I could make a coherent video, and most songs that go well with AMVs don't actually fit that criteria, at least not with RE4. After choosing the song, I came up with a concept for the video: "heroes need heroes". Or, how a hero's journey can only ever be fully completed with some extra help. That's the story/message I wanted to tell in the short three minutes the song lasts. Because the video has a purpose and a story, you'll never see it move backwards. For example, once Leon shows up without his jacket, he never wears it again, and Ashley never appears before being rescued. Finally, the intro. From the start, I wanted to make some sort of intro and ending to properly wrap the video. The idea was to make it a nostalgic trip. For example, a Windows XP boot sequence all the way up to launching the game. After sitting on the completed video for a week, however (without the intro), eventually it occurred to me to tie in RE2 with this story. When I tried it, I was very pleased with how it turned out: it set the mood, gave the perfect nostalgic kick and provided some backstory and context for Leon. It's the perfect lens through which to watch the rest of the video. If you read all the way here, here's a tidbit just for you: this video was rendered 15 times, each time with some extra tweaks and additions, big and small, over the course of roughly a week. The version you're watching now is version 15. All RE4 cutscenes were recorded by me on PC with the HD Project Mod installed and Ashley's “Otoño” Costume / Beta Design. RE2 cutscene was recorded by me on PC with the FMVs extracted from Resident Evil 2 HD Mod (installed with Mulderland). Edited with Adobe Premiere.
