TITLE 🏗️ Interior Wall Plastering — Base Coat & Solid Prep! WORKING PRINCIPLE Plastering works in layers: the scratch/base coat bonds directly to porous brick/block, filling gaps and creating a rigid monolithic surface. Sand + cement + water mixed to plastic consistency is thrown/pressed firmly into the brick texture — mechanical key = strong adhesion. This first rough coat provides the structural foundation; it dries into a hard shell that prevents cracking and serves as the base for a smooth finish coat later. Applied thicker where needed to level uneven masonry; left intentionally rough so the next layer bonds perfectly. DESCRIPTION Applying the first scratch coat over interior brickwork — strong bond, full coverage, ready for finishing! EDUCATION - Mix Ratio = Critical: Base coat = 1 part cement : 3–4 parts sand; too rich = shrinks & cracks; too sandy = weak - Pre-Wet Brick: Sprinkle water 15 mins before — dry brick sucks moisture out of plaster → weak bond - Thickness Rule: Single coat = 10–15mm max; thicker = build in 2 layers with 24hr gap - Rough = Good: Don’t smooth base coat — scratch it while still soft → mechanical key for top coat - Working Time: Use within 60–90 mins; never add water to revive — start fresh batch - Curing Matters: Mist lightly 2–3× daily for 3 days — slow water retention = maximum strength - Electrical Points: Embed boxes FIRST — plaster around them; don’t cover then cut out later - Ceiling Gap: Leave 10–15mm space at top — prevents plaster cracking when building settles TOOLS AND MATERIALS Cement, clean sand, water, mixing shovel/bucket, trowel, hawk board, plastering float, brush/spray bottle, straight edge, work gloves, goggles STEPS 1. Dampen wall → protect floor ✅ 2. Mix sand + cement → add water to thick paste ✅ 3. Throw/press firmly onto wall → full coverage ✅ 4. Build up low spots → fill gaps ✅ 5. Level roughly → leave textured/rough surface ✅ 6. Cure → let dry 24–48hrs ✅ 7. Apply finish coat once hard ✅ TIPS - Sift sand first — remove stones → smoother mix, no trowel scratches - Mix small batches — base coat sets fast; waste = cost - Start from bottom → work upward; gravity helps adhesion - Don’t try to level perfectly now — base coat is for strength, not smoothness - If wall is very uneven: dot first → screed → fill between → faster & flatter - Work away from yourself — don’t brush wet plaster - Keep room ventilated but NOT drafty — strong wind dries too fast → cracks - Check bond after drying — tap hollow spots → remove & re-plaster SPECIFICATION - Base Coat Mix: 1 Portland cement : 3–4 clean washed sand; plasticizer optional - Sand Size: 0–4mm coarse/medium grit — fine sand = high shrinkage - Thickness: 10–15mm per coat; 20mm max total before reinforcement - Coverage: ~12–15mm thick = 1 bag cement (50lb) covers ~45–55 sq ft - Drying Time: 24hrs between coats; 7 days full cure - Application Temp: 5–30°C; protect from frost & direct hot sun - Adhesion: Firm hand pressure or spray-on bonding agent recommended - Surface Finish: Scratched/rough texture — no smooth troweling PRICE USA ESTIMATES Portland cement: $11–$18/50lb bag | Plastering sand: $0.05–$0.12/lb or $15–$35/cu ft | Trowel: $18–$42 | Hawk board: $12–$28 | Float: $10–$25 | Mixing tools: $15–$35 | Labor (base coat): $2.50–$5.00/sq ft | Material only: $0.40–$0.80/sq ft ADVANTAGES ✅ Proper base coat = finish never cracks or falls off ✅ Full coverage = seals masonry, blocks dust, strengthens wall ✅ Rough texture = top coat bonds rock-solid ✅ Cement-sand mix = fire-resistant, durable, mold-proof ✅ DIY-friendly technique — just needs practice ✅ Uniform base = less finish material needed later ✅ Prepared walls = faster tiling/painting ✅ Professional prep = professional final result PRODUCTIVITY IMPACT Do the base right and everything after goes smooth — strong foundation = perfect finish! 🏠💪 #PlasteringPro #InteriorRenovation #MasonryFinishing #HomeBuildUSA #SolidWalls   Thank you for watching!
