In our videos, weโre solving the puzzles of pain by uncovering how everyday habits, movement patterns, and body imbalances create discomfort โ and how to fix them! One of the questions therapists ask me all the time is: "What massage oil should I use?" At first, it sounds like a simple question. But after twenty years of working with clients, I've realized it's much bigger than that. The oil you choose becomes part of your treatment. It's part of your brand. It's part of your client's experience. And believe me, clients notice. I've experienced oils that feel amazing. Smooth. Light. Easy to work with. They absorb nicely, allow great glide, and leave the skin feeling healthy instead of sticky. Then I've experienced the opposite. Heavy oils. Cheap products. Greasy residue that stays on the client's skin for hours. Sometimes even on their clothes. The massage may have been great... But the last thing the client remembers is, "I hated how oily I felt afterward." That's not the memory you want them to leave with. As therapists, we spend thousands of dollars learning techniques. We buy expensive tables. We invest in education. But then some therapists try to save a few dollars on the one product they use every single session. That doesn't make sense. Your oil is one of your most important tools. Use quality products. Your clients will feel the difference. Another thing I encourage therapists to explore is customization. Every client is different. Some people come in stressed. Some come in exhausted. Some need to relax. Others need to feel energized before going back to work. That's where aromatherapy can become a wonderful addition to your practice. Lavender may help create a calming atmosphere. Peppermint can feel refreshing. Eucalyptus may create a clean, open feeling. Citrus oils often feel uplifting. The goal isn't to overwhelm your clients with strong scents. The goal is to create an experience that feels personal. Sometimes even asking, "Would you prefer something relaxing or refreshing today?" Immediately makes your client feel like they're receiving a treatment designed just for them. That's high-end service. I also like incorporating muscle rubs, warming creams, cooling gels, or herbal products when they're appropriate for the client's needs and when they're used safely. These aren't magic solutions. But when they're paired with good assessment and good hands, they can improve the overall experience. Remember... Products should support your treatment. They should never replace good technique. One thing I always remind therapists is this: Everything you put on your client's skin should be something you'd be comfortable putting on your own skin. Because it doesn't just stay on the surface. It becomes part of the experience. Quality matters. Ingredients matter. Comfort matters. Clients don't always remember the exact techniques you used. But they remember how they felt. They remember how the room smelled. How the oil felt. Whether they left feeling clean and refreshed... Or greasy and uncomfortable. Small details create unforgettable experiences. If you want to build a premium massage practice, stop thinking about oil as just lubrication. Think of it as part of your treatment. Part of your professionalism. Part of your reputation. Because great therapists don't just have skilled hands. They pay attention to every detail. And that's what separates a good massage from an unforgettable one.
