Platformer demon! I’m still kind of weirded out that I actually managed to beat this. This journey took two months, an incredible amount of willpower, and 70,000 attempts. When DON came out, I told my brother—who’s a pretty good platformer player—that I wanted to go for it. I didn’t plan to play many platformers before or after, just this one. He told me my best bet was to give up, that Dead of Night as a first platformer demon would be simply impossible. But DON turned out to be one of my best experiences with the game. Sure, I got frustrated. I went in completely blind, which I wouldn’t recommend to anyone—it’s incredibly inefficient. You could probably get consistent at everything and beat it much faster. I didn’t do that, though. Summarizing my experience is hard. Some rooms were absolutely incredible and made me feel so many emotions. Some were just okay. And a few… yeah, pretty bad. But overall, DON is extremely well made. The whole level flows beautifully, the music choices are perfect, and the ideas are top-tier. The double jump mechanic is brilliant—and so are the vines. A quick note about the fixed hitboxes: they’re honestly annoying. In most cases, I get why they exist—to prevent cheese—but I don’t think they needed to be everywhere. Sometimes you just die to random stuff and it feels unfair. I won’t go into specifics here due to YouTube’s character limits, but you can find my full breakdown (attempts, time, enjoyment per room) just below. Also, Tetris isn’t that hard, I swear lol. My detailed experience: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QoT4KWIZZbAAWcNrgsQXyYtWhO--g-60/view?usp=sharing - Level: Dead of Night by TMco. - Attempts: 69,873 attempts. - Hardest Rooms: Turnt, Sad, Presentation, Ecstasy, Paradise, Scarlet, Consequences, Ascension. - Best Rooms: Polybius, Ash, Encounter, Tetris, Dropper, Ascension. - Time: 93h 12m 03.189s (in-game time: 335,523.18). - Enjoyment: 100/100 — one of the best levels in the game, for sure. I didn’t really wanted / felt the need to include this part, but this completion won’t be sent to the platformer demon list since it doesn’t follow the rules. Sadly, I lost the run at Ascension due to a power outage. I’m not going to beat it again—it doesn’t matter to me. Before going into DON, I set the rules of the challenge for myself. To get back where I was, I modified register positional values to reach the checkpoint I had before the run died. Feel free to ask for any raw footage. If you however disagree with the fact that this completion was not in a single run, that’s your right—but please, don’t DM me about it. THUMBNAIL BY MY GIRLFRIEND, TYSM ILY!
