Date filmed: Saturday the 9th of November 2024 Videos filmed between 15:03 and 15:16 Route: Robin Hood Line - Between Nottingham (NGM) and Bulwell (BLW) Stations Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: B6004 David Lane, Basford (NG6 0JU) A level crossing found in Basford not too far to the north of Nottingham City Centre. The Robin Hood Line and Nottingham Express Transit network run side-by-side here, but they do not share the level crossing with each other. Otherwise, with trams every seven minutes towards/from Hucknall, and even more to/from Phoenix Park it wouldn't spend much time raised. As a result, one side of the level crossing is literally right beside the tram tracks with just enough space for people to wait at the barriers, and the crossing is literally just by David Lane Tram Stop. This level crossing is also right next to a signalled road junction and is fully integrated with traffic signals, which also double-up as a tram crossing, and traffic is very frequently stopped, and is further stopped by an 'all red request' shortly in advance before the barriers lower if not already stopped for approaching trams. The barriers also take a while to raise after the passage of trains whilst traffic over Vernon Road is let through and then stopped. Whilst the alarms have been known to have 'night mode' problems here, they were in 'day mode' at the time of my visit and sufficiently loud for the crossing's environment. There was a noticeable difference in volume between the two, with the one by the tram stop being significantly louder. Something rather unusual is that an additional bit of pole has been used on one of the entrance-side wigwags to have the wigwag itself turned round to face the oncoming traffic, something which wouldn't be possible if it were just on its bracket alone. You may also notice a strange in-situ tram signal on the backs of one of Vernon Road's traffic signals; why it's there or what it does isn't quite clear. Aside from that, the crossing's barriers here are in a really poor state as all four strike and rest on the floor.
