First, I fill my blender about two-thirds full with organic frozen kale. Next, I add water to the same level as the kale and blend until smooth. Once the kale is thoroughly blended, add the remaining kale shake ingredients, blending briefly after each one. Add 1 to 3 teaspoons of lemon juice, which helps prevent kidney stones and calcium deposits. Add one scoop of raw wheatgrass juice powder, which contains stevia. This adds sweetness without the carbs. One teaspoon of electrolyte powder adds trace minerals and extra potassium while also adding stevia and flavor. Be sure to blend your kale shake only briefly. Over-blending will cause the shake to foam and overflow the blender. If you want to consume this kale shake as a meal, add one teaspoon of coconut oil. I use organic, virgin, cold-pressed, unrefined coconut oil to add healthy fat to my kale shake. A kale shake without fruit is low in carbs and protein. It’s a very low-glycemic drink and will only trigger a small amount of insulin. If you’re on a two-meal per day schedule, you can drink this shake during your eating window or in the morning when you wake up. A kale shake is sometimes my entire salad for the day!
