Let’s talk about arthritis. There is an interesting cause of arthritis that not many people know about. This hidden cause of arthritis is iron overload. Our bodies don’t have a mechanism to get rid of excess iron, and too much iron in the body is toxic. One of the first symptoms of iron overload is arthritis in the hands and knees. Other symptoms of iron overload: • Fatigue • Abdominal pain • Bronze skin • Liver cirrhosis • Diabetes • Erectile dysfunction • Hypogonadism • Increased infection Excess iron is especially toxic to the liver, pancreas, and heart. The more the liver is damaged, the more problems you’ll have with iron. Top causes of iron overload: • Taking Tylenol • Consuming a high-carb diet • Consuming molasses • Taking multivitamins • Consuming too much red meat and not enough vegetables • Consuming red meat with sugar or starches Understanding what to do with your diet is crucial if you have iron overload. If you have this problem, you don’t want to start adding more iron to your diet. Fiber can help reduce iron overload. Consuming red meat with vegetables high in fiber may be beneficial. Remedies for iron overload: • Phytic acid (inositol hexaphosphate IP6) • Green tea • Cilantro • Quercetin Donating blood can be beneficial for iron overload.
