And they have been belovedly sung, recorded and performed through the past several decades. To me, even though I have never been a professional singer, (albeit having won many singing contests in my youthful days, and singing for fun in clubs and lounges in the past many years) these golden tunes have always been part of my repertoire of top favourites. With enduring passion, the past lives on dazzlingly for me, even today ! “Seems Just Yesterday” Leo Lim 1, July 2018 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia p/s This has totally been a first-time amateurish project for me. Both in recording my own singing, and putting together vocals with downloaded musical backings. You may not believe this, but all my vocal recordings were actually done on my smartphone. I didn’t use a high-quality microphone. And vocal recordings weren’t done in a sound room. Mixing was just with Audacity (the only “proper" software used). And I was struggling with not knowing what crucial mixing-tools to look into, inside Audacity
what aspects and sub-options to “increase”
or to "decrease". It was indeed a trial-&-error on Audacity for the first time ! Musical-backing tracks were from YouTube and other online sources. I had changed almost all the original keys of the downloaded musical backings, to suit my own vocal range. As a result, there are 2 songs that seem to have “froggy-harmony-vocal-backing-parts”, simply because of more than 4 or 5 downward steps in key-transposing. Moreover, long after having saved the entire composite MP3 track on Audacity, I then discovered that I had not known how to fully use its ”reverb” effects on my vocals. I had chosen the wrong preset category. Above all, it was very disappointing that I had to deal with 18 different kinds of rather "non high-quality" karaoke-types of backings. Which were more of MIDI and synthesized instrumental tracks. And not having the uniformity of a single and coherent source of quality musical backing. Even if I had just an acoustic trio or quartet backing me, they would certainly have enhanced everything much more nicely. And more wholesomely. That's the problem when I'm purely and 100% an amateur, and yet, my expectations, musical criteria, and aptitude are not quite amateurish. Most fortunately, time-coding of each song was done automatically by YouTube's software. The precise starting time for each song had to be obtained from the composite MP3 track. And as I drafted the texts to be put on this site, the song-list and commencing time-spots for all songs were also included. Finalisation on Windows Live Movie-Maker to input and align the sequential lyrics to be in sync with the 18 songs, and saving the project into a WMV file, was entirely done by my daughter. This was most time consuming. It took almost 60 hours ! I would be most delighted to hear from you. Do give me your comments & critique at the bottom space here. Many thanks indeed.
