看到珊瑚產卵的奇妙景象，相信每個人都會希望這樣蓬勃的生命力能夠源源不絕地持續下去；不過事實上南台灣的海洋生態現在正面臨嚴酷的挑戰；在去年八月份莫拉克颱風來襲時，大量泥沙被雨水沖進河川再流入海洋對生態造成明顯的影響。 珊珊礁協會去年底觀察發現，恆春半島部分地區的珊瑚受災嚴重，整體覆蓋率從原本的六七成、下降到三四成，連帶也使得當地的魚種跟著減少! 八八風災超過2千公釐的雨量，讓大量的泥沙淤積在高屏溪等河流的中下游，最後部分泥沙甚至流入海中，覆蓋許多底棲生物，，]珊瑚礁學會去年年底在恆春半島24個測站進行總體檢發現，珊瑚覆蓋率從原本的六七成，減少到三四成，其中像是眺石等海域的珊瑚更是嚴重受損。 珊瑚被破壞，環境改變，也連帶影響魚類的棲息，也因此珊瑚受損的眺石和香蕉灣，魚種數變少了，可是棲息環境較佳的後壁湖保護區，魚種數量卻增加了。 珊瑚礁學會表示，雖然八八風災後珊瑚的覆蓋率降低了，但幸好珊瑚有很強的復原力，只要水質好，基座還在，就可以持續生長，也因此今年珊瑚開始大量產卵的時間和往年差不多，而產卵的量也很正常。 記者 林曉慧 沈志明 台北報導。
