Film Actor Rahul Kumar (Famous for 3 Idiots - Milimeter) Gets Hair Transplant at Eugenix Mr. Rahul Kumar, the Bollywood actor known for his roles in movies like 3 Idiots, Omkara, and Bandish Bandits, underwent a hair transplant procedure in November 2024. A total of 2,525 grafts were implanted during the procedure. Before the surgery, he had a conversation with Dr. Arika Bansal, where she inquired about his plans after the Diwali festivities. Mr. Kumar responded that after the hair transplant, proper care would be crucial, and he planned to stay with his family during the recovery period. Dr. Bansal reassured him that combining the post-operative care with his holiday would be ideal. She added that during this time, he would experience some healing spots, and it would be difficult to resume shooting. Therefore, he should avoid exposure to dust and other irritants, and stay out of direct sunlight for the first 1-2 weeks. After that, there would be no need for such precautions. When Dr. Bansal asked about Mr. Rahul’s early projects as an adult, he shared that he began performing on stage at around 4 years old and had performed across almost all the states in India. At the age of 6, he starred in The Blue Umbrella, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and was later cast by Bhardwaj in Omkara as Langda Tyagi's son. He expressed how much he enjoyed working with the renowned actors in Omkara, such as Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Naseeruddin Shah, and Konkona Sen Sharma. Mr. Kumar went on to mention that he received the audition for 3 Idiots when he was 15. Initially, he wasn’t particularly interested, as he was preoccupied with his uncle’s wedding. At the time, he hadn’t been thinking about becoming an actor and instead wanted to join the army, as his maternal side of the family had a strong military background. Dr. Bansal remarked that people from Uttarakhand are often inclined to serve in the army. After the audition, Mr. Kumar was selected for the role and informed that the shoot would take place in Bangalore. He went on to receive a great deal of recognition and love from the audience after the movie's release. He credited his stage acting experience for giving him confidence in front of the camera. He also mentioned how Rajkumar Hirani, the director of 3 Idiots, had been very supportive, advising him to just be himself and not worry about the script or the dialogues. Dr. Bansal remarked that 3 Idiots had a significant impact on changing the mindset that a degree is not more valuable than pursuing one’s skills and passions. She also mentioned her favorite scene in which Mr. Kumar's character hilariously imitates the principal's speech on stage. He responded by saying that this was his first day of shooting, and he received a standing ovation after performing that scene. During the conversation, Dr. Bansal explained that the goal of his hair transplant procedure is to restore his hairline, corners, and sides, and to merge the transplanted hair volume with his existing hair for a natural look. She noted that this was the ideal time for the transplant, as it would enhance his appearance without dramatically changing it. Mr. Kumar reflected on his time working on Bandish Bandits, during which his hairline appeared fine. However, he acknowledged that stress played a significant role in his hair loss. Dr. Bansal agreed, adding that paternal history also contributed to his hair thinning, and stress can accelerate the process. Mr. Kumar also mentioned that during certain movie projects, he had bleached his hair, which damaged it further. He shared that it took him almost two and a half years to finalize his decision to undergo the hair transplant. In the meantime, he learned about DHT and how important it is to take care of one's hair. He realized that simply using hair oil wouldn’t suffice for hair growth, and he began using the right shampoo and multivitamins to maintain healthy hair. He admitted that if he had started taking medication or made lifestyle changes earlier, his hairline might not have receded so drastically. Dr. Bansal added that bleaching causes oxidative damage due to the peroxides used in the process, which essentially burns the hair. For this reason, she is against using bleaching and heat treatments on hair. She assured Mr. Kumar that his hair transplant procedure would be very comfortable.
