Casilda first came to see Dr. Rahim two years ago with multiple concerns involving her low back, pelvis, neck and TMJ. Looking back at her history, she remembered three significant falls: one as a child, another after suffering a stroke, and a third fall in the shower, the event that ultimately led her to seek care with Dr. Rahim. Casilda had previously received general chiropractic manipulation but felt the results were not lasting. She wanted to understand whether there was a structural pattern contributing to what she was experiencing rather than focusing only on her symptoms. After several visits with Dr. Rahim, something unexpected happened: Casilda stopped coming. She was beginning to feel symptomatically better, but one of the adjustments had frightened her and she became scared to continue the process. About a year later, while seeing a TMJ specialist, Casilda was told that her spine also needed to be addressed. That created an “aha” moment for her. She realized she wanted to return to Dr. Rahim and continue the work she had started. Now, two years after her original visit, Casilda is back experiencing pain and imbalance involving her hips, low back, neck and TMJ. Because of the time that had passed, Dr. Rahim performed a new examination and obtained updated weight-bearing full-spine X-rays. The films showed rotation through the sacrum and pelvis, approximately 7 mm of leg-length inequality and compensatory changes extending up the spine. Previous injuries around S3 and S4 were also reviewed. On the lateral view, Dr. Rahim discussed changes in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar curves along with a slight sway-back posture. Examination findings included areas at the coccyx, right pelvis, T11, T6 and C6. Dr. Rahim also evaluated Casilda’s TMJ, deviated septum, ankles and shoulders. Perhaps the most important part of this visit, however, was Casilda’s decision to tell her story openly. For her, sharing why she stopped was part of confronting the fear that had kept her from continuing. This is Part 1 of Casilda’s return.
