What happens when someone who has spent years in gangs and incarceration decides to completely change the direction of his life? In this powerful episode of The Parent Whisperer Podcast, Richard Ramos sits down with Isaac Ortiz, a devoted husband, father of five, mentoring specialist, and psychology student whose personal journey is a powerful example of transformation, responsibility, and hope. Isaac spent approximately 10 years in and out of incarceration and experienced firsthand the consequences of gang involvement and choices that took him away from the life he ultimately wanted. Today, he uses those experiences to help others who are working to rebuild their lives. As a Mentoring Specialist with Garden Pathways, Isaac supports adults who are working toward positive change and a better future. Garden Pathways' mentoring work focuses on helping individuals develop skills, make positive choices, and move toward greater stability and self-sufficiency. (Garden Pathways (https://gardenpathways.org/about-us/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) ) But Isaac's story isn't only about incarceration. It's about fatherhood. It's about becoming the kind of parent his children can be proud of. It's about understanding that our past doesn't have to determine our future. And it's about using the experiences that once held us back to help someone else move forward. In This Episode, We Discuss: • Isaac's experience with incarceration and gang involvement • The turning points that changed the direction of his life • How becoming a father changed his perspective • Breaking destructive cycles and creating a different future • The importance of mentorship and authentic relationships • Why people need someone who believes in their potential • Using lived experience to help others navigate change • Education, personal growth, and rebuilding your identity • How parenting can become part of the transformation process • Why it's never too late to make a different choice Isaac's story is a reminder that transformation doesn't happen because someone simply tells you to change. Sometimes, it happens because someone believes in you long enough for you to start believing in yourself. Today, Isaac is continuing his education in psychology and using his lived experience, compassion, and mentoring work to help others believe that change, healing, and a better future are possible. This is a conversation about second chances, fatherhood, responsibility, mentorship, and what it really means to turn your life around.
