The FN 5.7x28mm cartridge has been argued about for decades, usually in comparison to 9mm. But what was 5.7 actually designed to do? We went to FN in Belgium to talk with Kevin about the origins of 5.7, the development of the P90 and Five-seveN pistol, and the specific NATO requirements that shaped the cartridge. Then we took it to the range and tested SS190 against 9mm NATO ball using the types of targets the cartridge was designed around, including the CRISAT reference target, Kevlar, and ballistic gel. The point here is not to claim that 5.7 beats every modern 9mm defensive load. It is to look at the problem FN was originally asked to solve, how they designed 5.7 to solve it, and what happens when we actually test it against those requirements. Thanks to FN for giving us access to the factory, the people who know the system, and the test materials needed to put the claims to work. ⇒ SUPPORT TFBTV - WIN PRIZES ⇐ TFBTV is viewer supported.
