A Man Was Electrocuted for the Lindbergh Kidnapping. The Case Against Him Had 7 Major Holes. On the cold evening of March 1, 1932, the twenty-month-old son of Charles Lindbergh was taken from the second-floor nursery of the family’s estate near Hopewell, New Jersey. A makeshift ladder stood in the mud below the window. A ransom note lay on the sill. What followed — the notes, the go-between, the ransom handoff in a Bronx cemetery, the discovery in the woods, the money trail, and the 1935 trial of Bruno Richard Hauptmann — became the most famous criminal case of its decade. This episode follows the evidence, the prosecution’s case, and the doubts that have never fully gone away. Bruno Richard Hauptmann was convicted and executed on the strength of the 1935 trial record. This episode does not assert his guilt as proven beyond that verdict. On-screen labels mark contested and unverified material exactly where the record is disputed. The child is never depicted — his absence is shown only through the empty crib, the open window, and the recovered items. Alternative theories are presented solely as unverified claims, not as findings.
