In this video I will show you how I installed a new 2 Axis DRO kit onto my Harrison VS330TR manual lathe. How to install a lathe DRO kit on a lathe is relatively simple. However, there are some intricacies. The Job of the Digital Readout (DRO) is to tell the lathe operator the relative or absolute tool position with respect to either the part or the machine. Using the DRO is much faster than using the hand dials as you don't have to worry about backlash. To install the DRO I first mounted the display; the DRO itself. Then the linier scales. The scales are the parts that measure the positions. There is one for each axis. In the case of this machine the Z axis and the X axis. The lathe axis system is defined using the right hand rule. The X axis is positive towards the lathe operator across the machine. The Z axis is positive away from the chuck down the length of the machine.
