Ngo speaking about inspirations for her work, making unique costumes, working with actors on their wardrobes and much more! Tuesday, August 29, 2023 | 2:00PM ET/ 11:00AM PT Kim Ngo is an acclaimed Vietnamese American costume designer whose creative expertise can be seen throughout the film and television space. Most recently, her eye for characterization through design was showcased in The Accidental Getaway Driver, directed by Sing J. Lee, which premiered to critical acclaim at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Kim is currently working as the assistant costume designer on HBO/A24’s highly anticipated TV short series, The Sympathizer starring Robert Downey Jr. and Sandra Oh, which is set to premiere this year. A member of both the Costume Designers Guild and the Motion Pictures Costumers Union, Kim’s credits include contributions to NBC’s This Is Us, with a highlight being her designs for the Vietnam Unit seen on Season 3, as well as Spike Jonze’s The New Normal for Med Men. Her mastery in her craft can also be seen in her collaboration with costume designer Jennifer Johnson to craft looks for Focus Features/Annapurna Pictures’ Kajillionaire, written and directed by Miranda July. On top of her work in the film and television space, Kim’s client work spans a wide range of specialties, including design and builds for the World Cup, Virgin America, United States Air Force, and Princess Cruises. She has also created walk-about costumes, puppets of all sizes, and even NASCAR driving suits. As a craftsperson and artist, Kim has been blessed to collaborate with inspired creatives worldwide. From her work on Hollywood Reporter's ‘Best Horror Films to Watch’ in Orphan: First Kill to her award-winning volunteer work at the Centennial Women's Suffragette float in the Rose Bowl Parade, Kim's credits are all centered around learning and listening. She is an alumni of the famed Booker T. Washington for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX where she discovered her passion for costume design.
