I have a dilemma with love. Well, not love, but this limited, distorted idea of love that we worship. Look, maybe in my limited experience I just haven’t met THE person, but i want to propose an idea (it’s not original, im just passing it along.) What if the people and things we love are really just entry points into a state of mind? It’s not that I “love you,” it’s that you help me feel my own love. it seems like being “in-love” is the idea of mistaking someone that opens you up to love, for love itself. YOU ARE THE LOVE. You don’t need to look any farther than your own heart. And the reason I’m frustrated is because every time I’m in a relationship it feels like the other person needs me in order to feel their own love, and then they become so scared of losing me (and therefore love) that they cling too tightly and it pushes me away. We don’t need someone to feel complete, we complete ourselves first and then share our abundance. I still dream of making sacrifices for someone I love, of raising a family, of that selfless commitment, but maybe the reason most marriages end in divorce is because we tried doing it backwards.
