Pregnancy week by week #1WeekPregnant #1WeekPregnantSymptoms #1WeekPregnantDiet I am happy to provide an overview of pregnancy week by week! Please note that every pregnancy is different and the schedule may vary from woman to woman. Weeks 1-4: During this time you may not know you are pregnant yet. The first day of your last menstrual period is considered the beginning of pregnancy, although conception usually does not occur until a few weeks later. The fertilized egg will travel down the fallopian tube and implant in the lining of the uterus. This process is known as implantation and usually takes place around the fourth week. Weeks 5-8: During these weeks, the developing fetus is referred to as a 'foetus'. The fetus is approximately the size of a sesame seed in the fifth week and grows rapidly during this time. The placenta, which will nourish the fetus throughout the pregnancy, also begins to form during this time. By the eighth week, the fetus is about the size of a raspberry and has all its major organs and body parts. His lungs are developing and he may begin to practice breathing movements. #fearlessmommabirth #doula #birthcoach Weeks 9-12: During these weeks, the fetus will be the size of a lime. His face begins to take on a more human appearance and he may start to move. The fetus also develops reflexes such as the ability to suck and swallow. By week 12, the fetus is about the size of a plum and is considered fully formed. Weeks 13-16: During these weeks, the fetus is about the size of an avocado. His body has become more proportionate and he may start to grow hair and eyebrows. The fetus may also start making small movements that can be felt by the mother and are known as 'quickening'. Weeks 17-20: During these weeks, the fetus is the size of a potato. Her movements become more frequent and more powerful. The mother may also feel the baby kicking. The fetus's hearing and sense of taste develop during this time. Week 21-24: During these weeks, the fetus is approximately the size of a cantaloupe. The skin of the fetus is still translucent and wrinkled, but it will become softer as the fat store develops. Weeks 25-28: During these weeks, the fetus is about the size of an eggplant. His eyes can now open and close and he may begin to develop a regular sleep-wake cycle. The fetus's brain is developing rapidly and may be able to recognize the mother's voice. From 29 to 32 weeks: During these weeks, the fetus is about the size of a walnut. His bones have hardened and she may begin to settle head down in preparation for birth. The fetus's movements may be more restricted due to its larger size. Weeks 33-36: During these weeks, the fetus is about the size of a watermelon. His lungs are almost fully developed and he continues to gain weight. The mother may experience Braxton Hicks contractions, which are contractions practiced to help prepare the uterus for childbirth. Weeks 37-40: During these weeks, the fetus is considered complete and can be born at any time. It is the size of a small watermelon. The fetus continues to gain weight and is ready to be born. The mother may experience more frequent contractions as the body prepares for labour.
