A T.3 Typhoon with 41 Squadron markings has requested a Performance Take Off and is cleared to a flight level of 10,000ft (FL100). Check out how quickly it reaches this altitude from brakes to full reheats. Performance departures at RAF Coningsby are reminiscent of the English Electric Lightning, which would leave any spectator stunned as the Lightning would climb and accelerate vertically within seconds. Count how many seconds it takes for the Typhoon to not ONLY get airborne, but when it pulls back to accelerate vertically. Both the Typhoon and English Electric Lightning had similar performance where the thrust to weight ratios of both aircraft were a 1:1 ratio, allowing the aircraft to accelerate vertically. The Lbs of thrust produced from the aircraft was more than the weight in Lbs of the aircraft. Of course, the more payload, the less acceleration, but with this sort of power, it doesn't bother them too much. Aircraft have to request a Performance departure, they are not allowed to execute it without the clearance from ATC. There are many reasons for PTO, such as a short runway, clear aircraft traffic, barriers, problems on runway, or even just to get to somewhere fast. Reheats or Afterburners? Both are the same thing but “Afterburners” is a US term and “Reheats” is a UK term. We often state about the thrust to weight ratio of the Typhoon but lets be realistic, the more payload, the more heavier. But this doesn't always result in getting into a vertical climb. What is the point of the vertical climb? There are many reasons but let us be realistic in the fact that the Typhoon needs to get to their target quick. When a pilot requests a PTO, it means the Typhoon will whack on the reheats, get airborne fast while ATC check the airspace for traffic above. RAF Coningsby, TED HQ, in Lincolnshire is one of two RAF Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) Stations which protect UK airspace. RAF Lossiemouth is the other. There is also a third out in the Falkland Islands at RAF Mount Pleasant which 1435 Flt protect the airspace there. RAF Coningsby is home to two frontline, combat-ready squadrons, 3(F) and XI(F) squadron and is the training station for Typhoon pilots with 29 OCU. As ready as they were to scramble during WW2, Typhoons are ready to scramble right now, at a push of a button. #eurofighter #typhoon #qra #scramble #trending #tedconingsby #runway #tedconingsbyvan #tcs #ted #tedvideos #aviation #runway25 #coningsby #raf #fighter #fighterpilot #fighterjet #love #life #turbo #best #besttakeoff #aweome #sendit #afterburner Official Ted Coningsby Merchandise https://tedconingsby.co.uk/shop/ noTEDS https://tedconingsby.co.uk/noteds/ Ted Social stuff Instagram https://www.instagram.com/ted_coningsby/ Facebook https://m.facebook.com/tedconingsbyuk X https://twitter.com/tedconingsby www.tedconingsby.co.uk Ted Coningsby Membership: Join our channel to get access to members only perks.
