We finally got our Bowler transmission for our slammed slab which means we can get back to work on this build. First things first, with our giant 7.3L motor in this Continental, the new transmission doesn't really fit with the stock cutouts on the Lincoln body. So that means we have to break out the grinder and do some serious cutting. We're not just notching out our fire wall to get some extra clearance for the transmission; we're cutting all the way to the back of this car to make sure we have clearance for our driveshaft when this car is laying on its frame! Once we make some custom mounts and get our new Bowler transmission set in place, things get a bit tricky. We don't yet have our wheel package or driveshaft, so we have to get a bit creative with how we measure for our clearances. To make sure we're able to see where our rear end is sitting with the car aired out, we're making some flashy custom cardboard wheels. And for our driveshaft clearance, we've got a sturdy piece of string running from our transmission to our rear end. While having our wheels and driveshaft would be ideal, this method is going to be more than sufficient to get our tunnel fabricated! Now that we have our tunnel just about finished we can start worrying about our custom gas tank, wheel fitment, and interior!
