I FINALLY got my hands on a Steam Machine! After missing out on the original launch allocation and spending about six weeks wondering when I’d ACTUALLY be able to buy one, a couple of absolute legends helped me secure the 512GB model with a controller. And after roughly a week of setup, gaming, emulation, couch co-op and general tinkering, today I’m sharing my first hands-on impressions. Specifically I’ll be looking at the initial setup experience, Steam Controller connectivity, moving games and EmuDeck over from my Steam Deck, performance in games like Doom: The Dark Ages, Spider-Man and Red Dead Redemption 2, how well it works as an emulation box, and perhaps MOST importantly, whether the Steam Machine actually FEELS like a proper living-room console. This is NOT my full review. I’m still very much in the honeymoon period, so I’m going to spend the next month or so putting the Steam Machine through its paces in my living room and then I’ll come back with a deeper review once I’ve had enough time to find out whether these first impressions hold up on a longer timeline. ⏰ Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro and How I Got a Steam Machine 1:28 - What's in the Box 2:50 - Initial Setup and Controller Pairing 4:12 - Loading Up Games and Emulation 5:54 - Testing Heavy Hitters and Indie Gems 7:59 - Firing Up Emulated Games 9:03 - Console Sensibilities and Pros/Cons 12:25 - Final Thoughts, Outro, and Upcoming Videos 🛒 Affiliate Links & Support: Below are some of my favorite Steam Deck/Machine accessories you can grab on Amazon.
