What I Learned About Change After Losing the Only Identity I Knew What do you do next when your career is disrupted, your business fails, or your identity crumbles? Former Seattle Seahawks safety Jordan Babineaux faced this exact crisis. After a decade in the NFL, including a Super Bowl appearance, his career ended without warning. COVID took his business and his mother. Then, soon later, he lost a brother. Standing in the wreckage of his life, Jordan discovered what most people get wrong about navigating change: we wait for a crisis to force our hand instead of pivoting with intention. In this talk, Jordan shares: Why we're more afraid of success than failure (and how to fix it) The critical question that separates stuck leaders from resilient ones How to rebuild your identity without starting from scratch If you've ever felt stuck between who you were and who you're becoming, this 10-minute talk will show you how to pivot with purpose before life forces your hand. Jordan Babineaux is a former NFL defensive back who spent nearly a decade with the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans, after a standout career at Southern Arkansas University. Known as ā€œBig Play Babs,ā€ he etched his name in Seahawks history with game-changing plays, including a playoff-saving tackle against the Dallas Cowboys in 2007. Following the NFL, Babineaux transitioned into broadcasting as an analyst for the Seahawks and Fox Sports, before earning his MBA from Seattle University. He is the author of Pivot to Win, a book that helps achievers navigate change with resilience and purpose. Today, Babineaux is a business strategist and speaker who works with organizations to elevate their performance. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and serves on multiple nonprofit boards, where he advances leadership and community development. With 20 years of experience in sports, business, and leadership, Babineaux is a trusted voice on adaptability and peak performance. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
