They’re flying one of the oldest jet bombers still flying today: The English Electric Canberra. But they're no longer flying bombing missions. These two Canberras have been converted into highly specialized, high-altitude atmospheric research aircraft. And they carry some seriously sophisticated recording equipment. Including extremely high-definition cameras. The mission? Fly at around 50,000 feet and position the aircraft to record a total solar eclipse. Think about that. You’re flying a jet bomber designed more than 70 years ago… At 50,000 feet… With modern scientific equipment… To capture something happening millions of miles away. But then the cameras catch something else. Watch the bottom-left corner of the video. Did you see it? When the eclipse reaches totality, the cameras capture a HUGE solar flare erupting from the Sun.
