Johannes Brahms (1833.1897) [PUBLIC DOMAIN!] Sonata in C major op. 1 after an old minne-song (second movement with variations on the first verse) 1) Allegro (C major) 2) Andante (nach einem altdeutschen Minneliede) (C minor, ending in the parallel major) 3) Allegro molto e con fuoco -- Più mosso (E minor - C major) 4) Allegro con fuoco -- Presto non troppo ed agitato (C major) DE: Verstohlen geht der Mond auf, Blau, blau Blümelein! Durch Silberwölkchen führt sein Lauf; Rosen im Tal, Mädel im Saal, o schönste Rosa! EN: Stealthily the moon rises, Blue, blue floweret! His pathway is through silvery clouds; Roses in the valley, girl in the hall, oh most beautiful Rosa! This first Brahms Sonata was written at his age of 18 years! It is said to be "the big test for pianists" as well as the famous "Hammerklaviersonate" of Ludwig van Beethoven. To my knowledge there are only FEW recordings on youtube and only audio. So here you now get a LIVE VIDEO RECORDING with all its little mistakes and it is the calling to my dear colleagues to make it better! I want to mention the recording of my dear pianist colleague (and pharmacist!) Kamerhan Turan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr5FhyJPANI By the way: I took the piece up again after 37 years for the first time. I had played it in 1977 at my piano diploma exam recital.
