It's about time we eradicated child abuse in our country starting with schools. Not only is it counter productive to the goals of education, physical violence is proven to hurt a child's long term development. The only viable way to approach education is with compassion and patience. Our current schooling system was designed under colonialism to raise educated servants by actively encouraging subservience at every step. We now need a major perspective shift from this. For the future of our country, our approach to education needs to be deeply overhauled on a national level. The way education is handled in the vast majority of India is an abomination compared to the values our country claims to stand for. The education system in India does not encourage leadership or creativity, it encourages a competitive dog eat dog/zero sum mindset which couldn't be further from what our country needs today. We're harming our country's future & undermining our own potential by overlooking this. Each year, we lead millions of kids as they're growing up towards health problems like depression, anxiety, PTSD & suicidial tendencies. This causes many to find refuge in medications/drugs both illicit & legal, neither of which fix the real problem. Even those who survive have a part of their full potential stolen from them because we fill them with doubt & hinder them from cultivating self-esteem at every step. We're raising automatons driven by fear, not human beings. Child abuse needs to be completely eradicated at both schools & homes. Teachers & parents need to take a deep look inwards in an attempt to raise children in a compassionate manner. Fixing schools is the most important part of this as it'll have compounding effects in reducing this problem everywhere. We are making progress but not fast enough. Looking back at how India’s evolved since I was a kid, I cannot deny that child abuse has decreased visibly. But we’re nowhere near to eradicating it as many of us believe. Sure, students at good schools in large cities are not beaten anymore, but that’s only because it’s firstly illegal and also proven to hurt the child’s development. I'm happy this has changed but the old way is still the norm in the vast majority of India especially in villages and small towns. If our ancestors from a thousand years ago saw our schools and colleges today, they'd probably be both disappointed and horrified at what we're doing. Indian culture since Vedic times has never had the concept of beating children being good for them. This abhorrent idea was introduced by the British. Even they don't do it anymore but we're still sticking to ideas from that era because they were able to establish a self repeating cycle of trauma a few hundred years ago. This song is an attempt to further raise awareness regarding this and trigger a perspective shift in an attempt to break this vicious cycle. If you're a young kid reading this and you're feeling hopeless, I'm sorry that you're having to go through it. We made this project for you. I promise you it will be better, you will survive this and reach heights you cannot even imagine yet. Just hold on.
