In the previous episodes, we dismantled the engine, discovered damage to the valve train, repaired the cylinder head and installed the timing chains and their components. Now it is time to close the engine and assemble what is commonly called the engine short block or bottom-end assembly. • In this episode, we install the oil pickup, oil pan, front engine cover and oil seal. I will show the complete assembly sequence, how the mating surfaces are prepared and the important details to consider when installing these components. • Please note that a new front engine cover is used in this repair because this component is designed for one-time use. The oil pan and front cover are installed without separate gaskets; sealant is used to seal the mating surfaces. Proper surface preparation and careful sealant application are therefore essential to prevent leaks. • I will also demonstrate how to install the oil seal. This procedure requires a guide sleeve and a special installation tool that rotates the seal inside its mounting bore during installation. These tools are generally supplied with the new oil seal kit. • The entire procedure is shown step by step, from preparing the components to installing the oil pan, oil pickup, front cover and seal.
