TeaFlix Interview with Bo Brinkman - Gettysburg1863 Hosted by Dr. Angie McCartney & Ruth McCartney Actor / Director Bo Brinkman has Hollywood DNA running through his veins and is widely known as an actor, writer, producer, and director best known for his work in historical dramas and independent films. While many movie fans recognize him for portraying Major Walter H. Taylor, General Robert E. Lee's aide-de-camp, in the Civil War epics Gettysburg and Gods and Generals, Brinkman has built a substantial career behind the camera as a writer, director, and producer. As a filmmaker, Bo has frequently focused on themes of American history, military service, family legacy, and redemption. One of his most personal projects was Last Man Club, which he wrote, produced, and directed. Inspired by his father's service as a B-17 crewman during World War II, the film follows aging veterans on a journey to reconnect with surviving members of their wartime bomber crew. It took 20 years to bring to the screen. Unlike many directors who focus on large studio productions, Bo has devoted much of his career to independently produced films that celebrate American history, military service, and the experiences of ordinary people caught in extraordinary events. He also directed The Bay House - the story of a disgraced politician who returns to his hometown after a public scandal and must confront the family, relationships, and personal mistakes he left behind in his pursuit of power. This film appears to mark the transition between his earlier military/history-oriented projects and his later faith, family, and small-town Americana stories such as A Gettysburg Christmas. One of the more unusual entries in his biography is that in February 2008 he was living in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was "working in malaria control and writing screenplays." During that period in Kenya, he reportedly became involved with malaria-control efforts while continuing to develop film and television projects. Switching back to America, next November his latest work as a writer, producer & director called “Gettysburg1863” will be released, marking a historical nod to his major acting roles. Trivia: Bo was born Born Chester Harry Brinkman III in Pasadena, Texas, and his nickname is Bubba He is a cousin of actors Dennis & Randy Quaid and Sharon Tate He is also a first cousin, twice removed, of performer Gene Autry. Gene's maternal grandparents, Andrew Clinton Ozment and Margaret Malinda Pierce, were also Bo's paternal great-great-grandparents. Teaflix is sponsored by MrsMcCartneysTeas.com
