A big relief is coming for poor families in Andhra Pradesh who have been waiting for their own homes. With the initiative of Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, 3D printing technology is now being introduced for house construction in Andhra Pradesh. A major programme was recently held to formally begin the construction work, with ministers and officials present at the site. The biggest advantage of these 3D-printed houses is speed. Unlike conventional construction, one house can reportedly be completed in just 10 days. This means around 100 houses could potentially be completed within three months. The houses are being built using a special mixture containing around 70% fly ash, 20% cement and other specialised chemicals. The technology does not require conventional iron reinforcement, which can help avoid problems related to rust. The houses are designed in around 300 to 340 square feet and include a hall, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. The walls are constructed in layers with a small gap in between, helping reduce heat entering the house. The technology is also designed to make electrical and plumbing work easier and reduce seepage-related problems. Currently, 177 houses are being constructed in Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem in Guntur district at a cost of around ₹14 crore. Each house is estimated to cost approximately ₹5.10 lakh, with around ₹2.39 lakh provided as subsidy by the Central and State governments. Beneficiaries would contribute around ₹2.71 lakh. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has also reportedly given the green signal to expand the project. Plans are being considered to purchase 10 more machines and construct around 5,000 houses. DWCRA women may also receive training and employment opportunities through the project.
