When Escaping A Horror Movie Only Makes It Worse In most horror movies, the rule is simple: get out. In The Mist (2007), every escape attempt makes things worse, and staying inside the grocery store isn't any safer. By day two, the shoppers trapped in the Food House are as dangerous as whatever is waiting in the fog. In this video I break down Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's novella, from the first scream in the parking lot to Mrs. Carmody's rise in the aisles. I go through every attempt to leave the store: the loading dock, the rope, the pharmacy run and the last dash to the car. I look at why each one goes wrong and what the movie is saying about people who are scared and stuck together. Then I get to the ending, which I think is the cruelest one in horror, and why one character who walks out in the first ten minutes is the key to the whole thing.
