A 'People’s March to Reclaim Democracy' has been called in Delhi on Friday, 23 October, by People Against SIR, an alliance of farmers’ organisations, student groups, workers’ unions and civil society organisations. The protesters are demanding the removal and prosecution of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the restoration of voting rights to those allegedly excluded from voter lists. Protesters have been asked to assemble near Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Gol Dak Khana and Gol Market at 1 pm before marching towards the Election Commission’s office near Patel Chowk, carrying the national flag. The organisers have not sought police permission for the march. They have announced plans to hold a peaceful 'People’s Parliament' if stopped by the police. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) remain in force in the New Delhi district.
