Government buildings. SHOPS. Churches. SCHOOLS. Homes. A thriving Caribbean town on the "Emerald Isle of the CARIBBEAN." And then, in 1995, everything CHANGED. The Soufrière Hills volcano—dormant for 400 YEARS—erupted. At first, evacuations were PRECAUTIONARY. Temporary. People thought they'd RETURN. But the eruptions CONTINUED. And in 1997, massive pyroclastic flows swept DOWN the mountain. Plymouth was BURIED. Completely. Under 40+ feet of volcanic ash and DEBRIS. The entire capital CITY. Gone. ENTOMBED. Not FIXING the old. Making NEW. Montserrat can't RECOVER Plymouth. It's buried. GONE. But they're building Little BAY. A NEW capital. Not the SAME. NEW. And God does the same in YOUR life. Not recovering what was BURIED. Creating what's NEW. So what in YOUR life is buried? Maybe not under volcanic ASH. But buried under GRIEF. Failure. TRAUMA. Loss. REGRET. Your MARRIAGE? Buried. Your DREAMS? Buried. Your INNOCENCE? Buried. Your FAITH? Buried. Your HOPE? Buried. You can't go BACK. Can't DIG it up. Can't RECOVER it. It's GONE. Buried. Inaccessible. Here's what God SAYS: I give BEAUTY for ashes. I make things NEW. You may not get BACK what was buried. But I'll give you something BETTER. Not the SAME. NEW. 2 Corinthians 4:16: "Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day." Inwardly we are being RENEWED. Day by DAY. Even when outwardly things are buried, destroyed, LOST— Inwardly, God is RENEWING. Creating something NEW. Something BEAUTIFUL. Montserrat lost their CAPITAL. But they're building a new ONE. Montserrat's PAST is buried. But their FUTURE is being built. BEAUTY for ashes. JOY for mourning. PRAISE for heaviness. That's what God DOES. Stop MOURNING what's buried. Yes, GRIEVE. That's healthy. That's NECESSARY. But don't STAY in the grief. Because God is doing something NEW. He's bringing BEAUTY from your ashes. LIFE from your death. Montserrat's volcano buried their CAPITAL. But God is raising up something NEW. The same is TRUE for you. Whatever is BURIED in your life—God can create something NEW. Not the SAME.
