Fearless Prey | Only the Strongest Predators Will Survive | Wildlife Documentary follows the lion, the elephant, the green anaconda, the giant otter and the jaguar from a shrinking waterhole on the African grassland to the flooded forests of the Amazon, a river that rises and falls about thirty four feet every year. On the savannah, the dry season hands the advantage to the lion. Across the Atlantic, the same water turns the board over twice a year, and strength alone is never enough to stay on top. Through cinematic footage and educational storytelling, this documentary follows the hunters through every season of water. A lion pride waits above a steep bank where zebra must come down to drink, and elephants dig through a dry riverbed until clean water seeps up for every species that comes after them. In the Amazon, the dourada catfish completes a life cycle of more than seven thousand two hundred miles, the longest migration of any freshwater fish. The pink river dolphin, whose neck can turn ninety degrees, threads between drowned trunks by sound alone, and the electric eel fires up to eight hundred and sixty volts to take control of its prey's nerves, while on a lake off the Iriri River more than a hundred eels were seen hunting together. What follows is the part almost no wildlife documentary shows. The largest green anaconda ever measured in the wetlands reached seventeen feet, and a family of giant otters, fearless in front of a black caiman more than twice their length, drives it off with one deafening chorus. When the water falls, Amazon jaguars living at the highest densities ever recorded take caimans from shrinking lakes, and the harpy eagle waits in the canopy for sloths. Then in 2023 the water fell too far: Lake Tefé reached one hundred and five degrees Fahrenheit and more than two hundred river dolphins were lost without meeting a single predator. On the savannah, falling water is the season of plenty. On the Amazon, the top place always belongs to the water.
