The killer entered undetected, killed all four family members, and vanished without a trace. Despite over 13,000 anonymous tips, 250,000+ detectives, and more than 300 wanted posters distributed across Japan, the Setagaya family murder case remains one of the most chilling unsolved cold cases in Japanese criminal history. DNA evidence recovered from the crime scene indicated the suspect was a male of mixed Southern European and Eastern Asian descent — a profile rare in Japan but more common in South Korea — prompting Interpol and law enforcement across 192 countries to join the investigation. Forensic clues including a rare Buddhist Jizo statue, unidentified footwear, and foreign belongings found at the scene led to major breakthroughs that still yielded no conviction. Twenty-five years later, the Miyazawa family murder remains an open case, with the victim's surviving relatives continuing to seek justice annually.
