Barnard Castle is a historic market town in County Durham, England, named after the castle that dominates it. The castle, an English Heritage property, was founded in the 12th century by Bernard de Balliol. It later came under the ownership of the Earls of Warwick and then Richard III. The town itself is known for its charming, historic atmosphere and the dramatic setting of the castle overlooking the River Tees.
