1986 Donruss Baseball Pack Opening | The Right Jose this time!!!! Sometimes with vintage wax packs, especially those that may have had cards that were worth money when they first hit the store shelves - you have to wonder. Are these real, sealed 1986 Donruss Baseball wax packs – as fresh when they were issued, or were they opened, and re-wrapped somewhere along the way? I guess we will never know. Either way, going through these 1986 Donruss Baseball cards is always a lot of fun, and brings back great memories of vintage baseball – and the excitement we had when these first came out. The 1986 Donruss Baseball card set had LOTS of GREAT Rookie Cards, that we were sure were going to automatically someday be in the Hall of Fame, thanks Baseball “hype machine” including Jose Canseco, Darren Daulton, Len Dykstra, Cecil Fielder, Andres Galarraga, and Paul O'Neill as well as the ONE current rookie in this set who made it to Cooperstown - Fred McGriff. 1986 Donruss Baseball cards also features the only true rookie card of future Oakland A's General Manager Billy "Moneyball" Beane. The 1986 Donruss Baseball cards were real sharp (although in ways typical mid ‘80s) design as Donruss had continued to step up their graphics game, with card fronts feature thinly striped blue and black borders, around a parallelogram-shaped photo; a standard team logo, player name & position, and a Donruss logo. For the fifth year in a row, the first 26 cards of the set are Diamond Kings; the artwork was again produced by the Perez-Steele Galleries. To commemorate Pete Rose breaking Ty Cobb all-time base hits record, Donruss commissioned this "King of Kings" card. Rose was in the inaugural Diamond Kings subset in 1982, and this marks the first time a player had appeared on a second Diamond Kings card, as at the time, Donruss never repeated players. Nolan Ryan would become the second King of Kings in 1990, while Dave Winfield was so honored in 1994. Cards 27-46 make up the Rated Rookies. There are seven checklists which are numbered 1-6 with an unnumbered Diamond King checklist. Jose Canseco's card was one of the hottest rookie cards of the late-80s, and at one time was selling for as much as $100 right out of the pack. Needless to say, this card has been heavily counterfeited, but PSA 10 copies of his card still regularly sell for hundreds of dollars, although the thrill of hitting one – is a blast from baseball card collecting past!
