𝗠𝗬 𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗬 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗔𝗞𝗞𝗔 & 𝗞𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗛 | 𝗔𝗬𝗨𝗥𝗩𝗘𝗗𝗔 & 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥'𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗗𝗢𝗠 My connection with munakka (dried large grapes) began in childhood. Whenever I had a fever, my mother would wash munakka, warm it on a tawa, add rock salt, and give me five pieces in the morning, five in the afternoon, and five at night. I would actually look forward to those moments because I loved the special preparation she made for me. She would tell me that it helped reduce fever. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗞𝗔 𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗛𝗜𝗧𝗔 For years, I remembered this as a traditional home remedy. Later, while reading Charaka Samhita, I came across the concept of Jvarahara Mahakashaya in the fourth chapter, which led me to explore the traditional Ayurvedic understanding of fever and medicinal ingredients. I immediately called my mother and shared what I had read. She explained that her own father and grandfather had given her munakka, and she had continued the practice because it was a family tradition. She was surprised that the practice she had followed for years also reminded me of knowledge described in an Ayurvedic text. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗗𝗢𝗠 Many traditional practices are passed from mothers and grandmothers to the next generation through everyday life. Sometimes, the stories behind these practices are forgotten, even when the practices themselves continue. If your mother, grandmother, or another elder in your family is still with you, spend time with them. Keep a diary and write down the ingredients they use, how they prepare them, and the reasons they remember for using them. I decided to speak with my mother for 15 minutes every day during my commute from home to the office, learning about different ingredients and the knowledge she had inherited. This practice has continued to be important to me. 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗜 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗔𝗞𝗞𝗔 & 𝗞𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗛 Later, when I experienced frequent headaches as migraine, my mother suggested taking both munakka and kishmish (raisins). Her advice was to take munakka with milk at night and overnight-soaked kishmish in the morning on an empty stomach. She explained her advice through the traditional Ayurvedic concept of pitta, believing that an imbalance was connected to my headaches. She also described my head as feeling hot because I spent so much time thinking. I began following her advice, and I share this as my personal experience and the traditional wisdom passed down in my family.
