Three thousand years before Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, an Egyptian doctor was already prescribing moldy bread for infected wounds. And it worked. This is Day 6 of our 7-part series: Experience a Week in Ancient Egypt. Today, you are a physician in Thebes, 1250 BC. You trained at the House of Life at Karnak. You own a copy of the Ebers Papyrus — a 44-page medical scroll containing over 700 remedies, written three hundred years before you were born. You treat infected wounds with honey and willow bark. You wash your hands forty times a day. You have been doing this for twenty years. This morning you will treat a stonemason's infected hand with a remedy that modern medicine would recognize. This afternoon you will spend three hours trying to save a young woman in labour. You will use every technique your training has given you. It will not be enough. Egyptian medicine was the most advanced in the ancient world — used by Greek physicians as a reference for centuries. But medicine in 1250 BC has its limits. And a doctor's job has always included sitting with the people who could not be saved. Using AI trained on the Ebers Papyrus, the Edwin Smith Surgical Papyrus, and thousands of surviving medical records, we've reconstructed what one day as an Egyptian physician actually looked like. 📅 SERIES SCHEDULE: Day 1 — The Farmer Day 2 — The Tomb Builder Day 3 — The Egyptian Priest Day 4 — The Egyptian Wife Day 5 — The Egyptian Soldier Day 6 — The Egyptian Doctor (you are here) Day 7 — The Festival of Opet (series finale) 🔔 Subscribe so you don't miss Day 7 — the series finale. Every character from the past six days, together, in the same crowd, at the largest religious festival the ancient world has ever seen. #AncientEgypt #TimewarpCities #AIHistory
