Servere Severe Berg winds in Merrivale near Howick. Rolling Hills of Malmesbury as the cold front moves in. Storm at 1 pm near Stellenbosch. Meanwhile, heavy rains in the Eastern Cape Province have left the Gamtoos Valley inundated. Cold front rolling in over Tableview, Cape Town. Krantzkloof Nature Reserve at the Kloof, Durban. Never seen such a rainbow, 5kms before Three Sisters heading south on N1. After the non-stop rain, roads were flooded in the Northern Cape Province. Then at the Derdesteen viewpoint, Bloubergstrand. The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows: Two powerful cold fronts have swept in, delivering between 100 and 200 mm of rain, a significant flood threat, snowfall across higher elevations, and damaging winds exceeding 100 km/h. The South African Weather Service has issued several impact-based warnings for 10–12 May 2026. An Orange Level 8 warning is in effect for the mountainous areas of Drakenstein, Stellenbosch, western Theewaterskloof, Breede Valley, and Witzenberg in the Western Cape, where disruptive rainfall may cause flooding, mudslides, and pose a danger to life due to rapidly rising rivers. Orange Level 6 warnings cover the West Coast, Cape Winelands, City of Cape Town, and western Overberg, as well as damaging winds and waves along the coast from Lambert’s Bay to Plettenberg Bay, threatening navigation and coastal infrastructure. Yellow Level 4 alerts are in place for hazardous sea conditions from Alexander Bay to Lambert’s Bay, while Yellow Level 2 warnings highlight the risk of wind damage to informal settlements, fallen trees, and travel difficulties in the West Coast, City of Cape Town, Overberg, Central Karoo, Kannaland, and southern Namakwa. There are also Yellow Level 2 warnings for disruptive snowfall that may affect vulnerable livestock, traffic, and mountain pass accessibility over Karoo Hoogland and parts of the Cape Winelands, along with further warnings for localised flooding in the north of the West Coast and the eastern Cape Winelands and Overberg regions.
