tep inside Regelbau 634, one of the distinctive WWII German Atlantic Wall bunkers designed around a heavily armored six-embrasure turret. The Regelbau 634 was officially known as “Stand mit 6-Schartenturm”, meaning “bunker with 6-embrasure turret.” It was a permanent Baustärke B combat bunker developed for the German Army. The design dates from the fourth quarter of 1942, and documented specifications call for roughly 630 m³ of concrete and a crew of about nine men. Its main purpose was close-range defensive fire. The armored turret provided six firing embrasures around the bunker, allowing the position to cover a wide area with machine-gun fire while keeping the crew heavily protected inside the steel cupola. The standard armament is documented as two sMG 34 heavy machine guns. The turret itself was heavily armored, with sources describing approximately 25 cm thick steel. Machine guns were mounted through protected ball mounts aligned with the embrasures, while a central periscope provided all-round observation from inside the turret. The bunker also contained crew accommodation and ammunition space beneath the massive concrete protection. Regelbau 634 was part of the broader German Atlantic Wall fortification system, and examples survive in several coastal defence areas. In Denmark, 18 Regelbau 634 bunkers are documented in the Regelbau.dk database. At Hanstholm, Regelbau 634 positions were used with armored six-embrasure turrets to protect approaches and provide machine-gun coverage. The armored cupolas were designed to withstand extremely heavy fire, making them among the most recognizable small combat bunkers of the German coastal fortification system. In this video, I explore the Regelbau 634 bunker, its armored turret, interior layout, defensive role and place in WWII German military architecture and Atlantic Wall history.
