Here are the results of my latest round of material tests. This time there's molybdenum, volcanic sand, carborundum, titanium siliconite, peridot, lapis lazuli and finally, some red garnet. All of which I've mixing into a stoneware clay body to throw some bowls with. These are then glazed, coated with a feldspathic crackle glaze and finally all of these pots will be reduction fired to cone ten, which is around 1290ºC, in my gas kiln. I adore running these experiments as it's always such a surprise to see what emerges from the kiln. Previously, some of these materials tests have ended up being quite significant parts of my practice, as inclusions I end up using all the time. Whereas others are destined to never be used again, the stuff chucked into my materials box to gather dust. I'd love to hear your thoughts about these new tests and perhaps more importantly, if you have any suggestions for reactive and interesting metals, minerals and anything else to experiment with, do let me know in the comments!
