As summer approaches, when the aroma of drying tea leaves drifts from the factories around the village, it tells us that it’s time to pick the tea leaves. Every year, we don’t wait too long. We head to the tea garden to pick some young tea leaves and use them to make our traditional handmade black tea. Making traditional handmade tea has never been easy, but people in northern Iran have always processed some of their tea leaves this way. Because there’s something truly indescribable about making traditional handmade tea; and the incredible aroma and flavor of this tea make all the hard work worth it. The process of making traditional handmade tea starts by spreading the freshly picked tea leaves in a well-ventilated place for about a day, allowing them to wither and become soft and wilted. Once the leaves have withered, we put them into a special wooden container called a “Chay Lak” and knead them for about 45 minutes until they are completely crushed and rolled. We know the leaves have been kneaded enough when we squeeze a small amount in our fist. If they start to foam, it means we should stop kneading. Then, we put the kneaded leaves into a clay pot for about two hours and cover them with a cloth to let them ferment. After fermentation, we dry the leaves over the gentle heat of a heater until they become completely crisp and brittle. Now, your traditional handmade black tea is ready.☕️🍃 If this video added value to you or made your day a little better, you can support our work through the Super Thanks button below.
