Ira Pastor, ideaXme life sciences ambassador, interviews Dr. Anjhula Mya Singh Bais, international refugee psychotherapist, super model, actor, social activist, and blogger. Ira Pastor Comments: According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the world is facing an unprecedented level of displacement, with 71+ million people forced from their homes. Of those, almost 26 million are refugees, and over half under the age of 18. Many refugees, especially children, have experienced trauma related to war or persecution that may affect their mental and physical health long after the events have occurred. These traumatic events may occur while the refugees are in their country of origin, during displacement from their country of origin, or in the resettlement process. The refugee mental health field has made major advances in recent decades, a major development being the formulation and testing of psychotherapy modalities for survivors of torture and other forms of trauma. Dr. Anjhula Bais Today we have the honor of being joined by Dr. Anjhula Mya Singh Bais, international refugee psychotherapist, super model, actor, social activist, and blogger. Dr. Bais studied psychology and philosophy at Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi, India. Dr. Bais also worked for The Chicago School's Global HOPE (Healing Opportunities through Purposeful Engagement) Training Initiative, to counsel, encourage and do therapeutic play with young girls in Zambia who were living as prostitutes and had AIDS. Dr. Bais is currently the Founder of 4th Dimension Consultancy and International Psychology practice based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dr. Bais was the youngest chair in the history of Amnesty International Malaysia, a member of the Young Global Leaders Class of 2019 by World Economic Forum, a Board Member at the Institute of Semitics at Princeton, and the Division 52 (International Psychology ) Chair of Languages, at the American Psychological Association.
