They were the first-ever 'true' Korean pop idol girl group. Their group name is in Korean and means "the three peers," derived from se (세) and ttorae (또래). Upon debut, the girl group was popular, and their concept was novel due to its exploration of Western music genres and Western girl group concepts. Formed in 1987, they officially debuted in 1988 with the self-titled studio album Settorae 1st Album. They eventually released their second studio album Settorae 2nd Album the following year. Meanwhile, both Lee Heejung and Woo Yoon-ah went on to join the agency City Music. Under their new agency, they formed the girl duo TAMTAM, though under new stage names, with Lee Hee-jung being Lee Ji-soo and Woo Yun-ah being Kang Hyunji. In 1991, they released the studio album TAMTAM 1st Album. Due to unknown reasons, they disbanded soon after. Members: Lee Hee-jung (Leader, Lead Vocal) (이희정), born February 19, 1968; member from 1987 to 1989. Born into a wealthy family, she reportedly lived a life of luxury, wearing beautiful shoes and wanting nothing more. While working as a commercial model in high school, her father was struck by a tragedy that was threatening her family's fortunes. Then, she received the opportunity to debut as a CF model before she became one of the members of SETORAE and began her entertainment career. After her departure from TAMTAM around 1992, she returned in 1993 to debut as a soloist singer to release the studio album To You Who Has Forgotten Me. She was active as a soloist until approximately 1994, at which point, it appeared that she had also retired from the entertainment industry as she was approaching her 30s, which was considered too old for idols. In January 1999, it was shockingly discovered that Lee Hee-jung was actually member 'Lee Gai' of DR Music's idol girl group Baby V.O.X; she had gained a new identity under a false name and her birth year was forged to be 1978 in order for the agency to debut her with the members who were all young women between the ages of 17 and 19. The discovery of the affairs was considered scandalous, and it was extensively reported on by news outlets. As negative public criticism grew over the Lee Gai affair, DR Music eventually was forced to admit that Lee Gai was indeed Lee Hee-jung and that her age was falsified to make her younger to allow her to debut with younger women - her real birth year being 1968 and real age being 31-years-old at the time. This led to her withdrawal from Baby V.O.X and eventual real retirement from the entertainment industry. Not too much is known about Lee Hee-jung (Lee Gai) after the exposé; it is was reported that she laid-low for three years due to severe depression and sometime later met her first husband with whom she had two children, but the two eventually divorced. Though, after a long time, she remarried. After this point, the circumstances of her are the most documented and well-known even after 20+ years. Kang Hyun-ji (born as Woo Yun-ah), (Visual, Dancer, Sub-vocal) (강현지), born 1969; member from 1987 to 1989. She was a child actress. In 1987, she appeared in Cho Yong-pil's music video for "아하! 그렇지 그렇고 말고". After TAMTAM's disbandment, she retired from the entertainment industry. It's known that she married musician Lee Jong Cheol, and together, they opened a café that continues to operate to this day. Kim Jungim (Sub-vocal, Dancer) (김정임), born 1970; member from 1987 to 1989. She was the youngest member of the group. She immigrated to the United States to live a normal life. Not much else is known about her. Disclaimer: We do not own the videos, music, and pictures used.
