We’ve just been down to the seafront this afternoon to see the impact of the severe weather. The sea wall itself is holding up well so far, but the power of the waves has been immense. Large stones and debris have been thrown right up onto the promenade and beneath the railway viaduct. In the stilling basin, one of the stone benches has been completely smashed apart by the force of the sea. What you’re seeing here is damage from the storms so far, and with Storm Ingrid still affecting the coast tonight, conditions are expected to worsen before they improve. There is also an important rail update from GWR. Due to the forecast severe weather impacting the Dawlish sea wall, the railway between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot will be closed from 8.30 this evening, Friday the 23rd of January, until at least 2.00 pm on Saturday the 24th. This allows the sea wall to be inspected safely in daylight once the storm has passed. Train services will continue to run to Exeter St Davids and from Newton Abbot, with limited rail replacement coaches available where possible. If you’re travelling later today, please check live departure boards or National Rail Enquiries before setting off. Tickets for today and tomorrow will remain valid until Sunday the 25th of January if you need to postpone your journey. Please take extra care near the seafront tonight and avoid the promenade around high tide. High tide this evening is at 9.27 pm, reaching 4.15 metres. Tomorrow morning’s high tide is at 9.40 am, reaching 4.35 metres. Strong easterly winds are expected to push sea levels higher than predicted. We’ll continue to keep you updated with any further changes to rail services and coastal conditions. #Dawlish #StormIngrid #StormDamage VIP Trial available https://coastcams.me/freetrial 🔴 Subscribe to our channel here https://www.youtube.com/@CoastCams247?sub_confirmation=1 🔴 Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/@CoastCams247/join 🔴 Our most recent videos https://www.youtube.com/@CoastCams247/videos Website: https://coastcams.com/ Social Media: Facebook: CoastCams247 Instagram: CoastCams247 Twitter: CoastCams247 #dawlish #dawlishseawall #devon
