#truecrime #CriminalRecords #crimepodcast In 2025, three executions by firing squad were carried out in the United States, all of them in South Carolina, marking the return of this method after a 15-year hiatus. The first of these executions took place on March 7, 2025, when Brad Sigmon, 67, was put to death for the brutal 2001 murders of his former partner’s parents, whom he killed with a baseball bat. Sigmon was executed at Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia. He was strapped to a specially designed chair, with a red target placed over his heart, as three volunteer members of the Department of Corrections fired simultaneously from a distance of 4.5 meters using .308 Winchester TAP Urban ammunition. He was pronounced dead approximately 90 seconds later, at 6:08 p.m. The condemned inmates chose firing squad over lethal injection or the electric chair, citing concerns about the reliability of those methods after witnessing prolonged and problematic executions of other death row prisoners. This series of executions reflects a broader national trend, as states explore alternative execution methods amid ongoing shortages of lethal injection drugs. South Carolina has taken the lead in this shift, while states such as Idaho, Mississippi, Utah, and Oklahoma have also legalized firing squads as an available option. Welcome to Criminal Records.
