How do you respond to hurtful comments, personal questions, insults, and disrespectful behaviour without losing your composure? In this video, I share practical strategies for dealing with rude people, responding to inappropriate questions, handling hurtful remarks, and protecting your peace without being rude in return. We have all encountered people who make offensive comments, ask intrusive personal questions, cross boundaries, or deliberately try to embarrass us. Knowing how to respond to rude people is an important social skill that can help you navigate difficult conversations with confidence, emotional intelligence, and self-respect. I believe that hurt people hurt people. Sometimes, understanding the person behind the behaviour can help us avoid taking their words personally. However, understanding someone's behavior does not mean tolerating disrespect or allowing others to cross our boundaries. In this video, I introduce the HIRT Method, a practical approach I developed to help you respond to rude people, handle insults, and navigate uncomfortable social situations with confidence. THE HIRT METHOD: 4 WAYS TO RESPOND TO RUDE PEOPLE H: Humor Learn how to use humor and wit to respond to rude remarks, defuse uncomfortable situations, and put someone in their place without becoming hostile yourself. I: Inflection Discover how your tone of voice, pitch, and emphasis can change the meaning of your words, communicate confidence, and help you respond effectively to inappropriate or hurtful comments. R: Reiteration / Redirection Learn how to repeat yourself calmly when someone crosses a boundary or redirect a conversation when someone asks an intrusive question. You do not owe everyone an explanation about your personal life. T: Tranquility Understand why silence can sometimes be the most powerful response. Learn when it is better not to engage, how to remain composed, and why you do not need to react to every provocation. I hope this helps. Never be afraid to set boundaries when necessary. Kindness does not mean being a doormat; it means respecting yourself first and foremost and extending that same respect to those around you. Sincerely, Jamila
