After a lot of gentle wiggling, the plug that had been sitting right in front of the eardrum slips out. Katie's second ear has a completely different consistency: a thin layer of dry skin with wax stuck to its surface, which is sensitive and slow to peel away. Taylor's patient has a hard block of wax with a thick layer of dead skin around the outside. Rolling it from the top gives a surface to grip, and it pops out. The other ear has a sheen under the wax that suggests more oil use, and a big plug gets trapped right at the entrance.
